MISIA x Sabourin Costes: Re-enchanting the Villa Medici

MISIA, joins the poetic and sensitive gaze of design studio Sabourin Costes for an exceptional project in the heart of Rome: the transformation of one of the historic guest rooms at the Villa Medici, the legendary French Academy.

Perched on the Pincian Hill, overlooking the Eternal City, the Villa Medici has long stood as a sanctuary for creation, transmission, and artistic exploration. In June 2025, it reveals a sweeping project to reimagine its guest rooms and historic gardens, a celebration of heritage infused with contemporary design and rare craftsmanship.

For one of these rooms, Sabourin Costes has imagined a space like a breath fluid, serene, and poetic a quiet island amid the Roman vibrancy. Named Isola, the room echoes the essence of the Villa: a place of inner retreat, of contemplation and creation, where boundaries fade and every space flows into the next, in a subtle dialogue of light and form.

At the heart of this haven lies a convertible daybed, the room’s anchor and centerpiece. Here, MISIA brings its textile artistry: Cap Taillat, a bold, striped fabric, lends rhythm and character to the piece. In contrast, cushions in Chère Vivienne, a refined jacquard with a delicate motif, whisper of Parisian elegance. The curtains, made of Rayol, gently sift the Roman light, casting soft shadows and inviting silence.

This delicate interplay of textures, volumes, and gestures reflects the shared sensibilities of MISIA and Sabourin Costes: a love of noble materials, a devotion to detail, and a taste for narrative composition. Together, they craft a vision of design where fabric becomes more than surface it becomes memory, emotion, atmosphere. A poetic alliance destined to leave a lasting trace, both visual and sensory, within the timeless walls of the Villa Medici.
