Gilbert Kann reinvents himself with MISIA

Gilbert Kann, a specialist in 20th century decorative arts, creates the collections for major Parisian companies and accompanies individuals and professionals in their choice of furnishings. When he learned of MISIA, he immediately had an idea. Charmed and inspired by the fabrics and their characteristic language of decorative arts, he thought of the Puces flea market. The pieces of furniture, waiting to be reupholstered and resold.

“For the first time, I wanted to do for myself what I usually do for others. Choose a piece of furniture and have the pleasure of adapting it to my home by using MISIA fabric. I relied on the privileged relationship I have had with the Puces dealers for the past 25 years to choose the right pieces”. So Gilbert searches, but for himself. He designs, but at home. He brings objects back to life using out-of-theordinary materials, creating a link between the item and the material.

Imposing no limits except for “trying to avoid the already achieved” and gives himself a new domain in the MISIA showroom.

The result : a Paolo Venini lamp illuminates a set of 6 Joseph-André Motte chairs covered in a figurative sepia fabric, “La pêche aux éponges”. A pair of large “1705” armchairs by Warren Platner recovered with the Seychelles-Blue “Pic du Lotus” texture, complemented by modern terracotta “Carlton” drapes.

A dialogue in Gilbert’s style, an impromptu conversation, a shifted point of view. Photographs staged and taken at his home in Paris.
